Before you use our Shopping cart system

There are a few things that are beneficial to keep in mind before you use our shopping cart system. By reading the following help text, you can save yourself both time and frustration.

1. The Roper Whitney Shopping Cart system cannot be left idle for longer than twenty minutes, or the order will be cancelled. Therefore, it is helpful to browse the products that we offer for sale via our Web site before you actually purchase. To this end, it is often helpful to make a list of the items that you want to purchase before you actually add them to your shopping cart. By no means does this imply that you only have twenty minutes to complete you shopping; it simply means that you cannot leave the connection to the Roper Whitney shopping cart system idle for times in exccess of twenty minutes.

2. Often the Roper Whitney Shopping Cart system will ask you to specify a specific size or dimension for the item that you want to purchase. All measurements must be provided in decimal format. For example, the fractional format of ¾" must be provided as 0.75".

3. Please take your time and review your order when you proceed to the checkout line. Make sure the quantities of the items that you have ordered are correct. You always are provided with the option of continuing your shopping. It helps to verify an order before you proceed to the checkout line, as rectifying an incorrect order after you check out can significantly lengthen the time that it will take to receive the goods that you have ordered.

How do I place an order?

When conducting transactions over the Web, it is common to think of the Web site from which you are purchasing as a physical store. In a real store, you can browse shelves, and pick up the items that you want to purchase. Normally, you place them in a shopping cart, or create an invoice that needs to be filled. Shopping via the Web is quite the same, with the exception being that the contents of your "shopping cart" are acquired one at a time by specifying the items that you want to purchase through descriptions that are provided from our Web site.

As you browse through our Web site, simply click the items that you want to purchase. After the descriptions of any of the items that we sell, there are common fields where you can specify dimensions, and quantities of the items that you want to purchase. After you have provided this information, click the "Add" button that is displayed to the right of the description of the product. When you click "Add", the quantity of items that you have selected is added to your shopping cart. Once an item is added to your shopping cart, you can continue to shop for more items, or simply proceed to a check out line where your order is processed, and you are asked to arrange for payment by providing a credit card number.

What is a shopping cart?

Quite simply, a shopping cart is a detailed listing of all of the items that you have selected to purchase, the quantities of each of the items that you have purchased, and a price for the total number of items that you have selected to purchase.

Your shopping cart is updated every time you select a new item to purchase, and every time that you decide that you no longer want to purchase an item from your shopping cart. Also, the price for the total amount of the items that are contained in your shopping cart is updated (not including tax or shipping charges) whenever an item is added or removed from your shopping cart. You can view the contents and current price of all the goods in your shopping cart at any time by clicking the Shopping cart / Check Out button that is displayed on all of the pages in the Roper Whitney online store.

After you have selected all of the items that you want to purchase, and added them to your shopping cart, you can proceed to a checkout line where you are asked to provide payment information in the form of a credit card number, and shipping directions. When you check out of the Roper Whitney online shopping facility, the total tax of your order is calculated (Illinois customers only), and shipping charges are applied.

What is a checkout line?

Just as in a conventional store, a checkout line is where the items that you want to purchase are totaled, tax applied, shipping charges applied, and delivery information is gathered. The checkout line is where the order it processed and finalized.
